About the Canyon Theatre Guild

The Mission of the Canyon Theatre Guild is to make the world a better place by entertaining, educating, enlightening, and enriching our community through quality live theatre.

The Canyon Theatre Guild produces ten full-scale productions each season. This gives the citizens of SCV over 150 opportunities to experience great live theatre each year. Our professional quality and high entertainment value have led our citizens to vote us the "Best Live Theatre" in the Santa Clarita Valley nine times—that's every year of the Daily News Reader's Poll since its inception! Perhaps that's why over 40,000 people will attend this season's performances. A cadre of over 500 SCV citizen artists and volunteers continually demonstrate their love of our theatre through their time, talent, and hard work. In addition to being supported by thousands of Santa Clarita citizens, the CTG is also supported by local government, businesses, and corporations.

The Canyon Theatre Guild has been serving the citizens of Santa Clarita Valley with quality live theatre for 35 years. We know that theatre is beneficial to the health of a maturing community. The art of theatre allows the artist and their audience the opportunity to reflect on their personal beliefs, their interpersonal relationships with others, and their relationship to a society as a whole. It shines the light of education and enlightenment on the darkness of prejudice, ignorance, and apathy. It provides us with the healing power of laughter and the catharsis of tears. It makes us better people.

Theatre also has great benefits for the youth of our community. Studies have shown a direct correlation between involvement in cultural arts and higher academic scores. It is also a valuable tool in helping at-risk students find a positive outlet for expressing themselves. To this end, the Canyon Theatre Guild serves the youth of our community through its Theatre for Youth season of performances, CTG Kids workshops, STARS workshop for teens, and Adventures in Theatre for home-schooled students.

The CTG strongly believes in helping the community. Ten percent of all our workshop participants are given full scholarships by the CTG based on financial need as identified by the Boys and Girls Club. In addition, the CTG donates gallery space to the Santa Clarita Artists' Association for the display of local artists' work. We are proud to be partnered with the City of Santa Clarita's Cowboy Festival for performances of a Western musical and by hosting the Western fashion show "Cowboy Coutre." Additionally in the past year, the Canyon Theatre Guild raised money with Borders for new books for our local library, sponsored a blood drive for the hospital, food drive for the SCV Food Pantry, raised money for hurricane Katrina victims and the David Ewert fund, was a major sponsor of the Santa Clarita Film Festival, and provided entertainment for a myriad of non-profit organizations. Finally, the CTG gives away hundreds of tickets each season to non-profit organizations in the SCV to use for their own fundraisers.

Now that you know more about us, we invite you to join us. We look forward to seeing you at the Theatre!
